Taxi-Time: 4 Tips To Make Your Daily Rides More Productive

If you take a taxicab from a company like White Top Cab Company to and from work every day, then you likely wish you could get more out of your time spent in them. Sure, you can send a few text messages or listen to music, but there may be few people to text early in the morning, and you may be getting tired of the play-list on your MP3 player. Follow these tips that can all help you turn your taxi-time into productivity-time when traveling to and from work every day. 

1. Elusive Exercise

Although the thought of exercising in a taxicab may sound strange at first, remember that there are many exercises that don't involve jumping around or running. You can exercise right in your seat, and if you are shy, then you can even stick to movements that your cab driver won't even realize you are doing. Simple seated crunches can be performed for a bit or you can try another ab-strengthener called a "vacuum" that involves just basically sucking in your belly.

Then, you can switch it up with some isometric exercises that target other muscle groups that need strengthening. If you are a yoga enthusiast, then you can even strike a few simple poses in the back seat. 

2. Speech-To-Text Strategy

Even if you have a small, lightweight laptop, typing while bumping around in a car can be very difficult. Before you give up on using taxi-time to get some needed work done on the computer or to finally respond to that inbox full of emails, look into speech-to-text software that can type for you while you speak. 

While you may not want to disclose personal or top-secret company information when a cab driver can hear you, you can answer those everyday emails and even get some work done on that upcoming presentation you are doing at work. While many people have doubts that this software can really work that well, a good speech-recognition software program can be up to 99-percent accurate. 

3. Take Advantage of Audible Books

If you are like many people, reading while in a car may cause motion sickness. This happens when your eyes are looking at an object not moving while your brain senses movement. Looking out the window is the common prevention technique, and you can't read if you are looking outside. What you can do is listen to one of the many audible books available today that you can download right onto your tablet, smartphone, or MP3 player. 

You can listen to an educational book about a subject you have always wanted to learn up on, a self-help book, or any book that has been on your "want to read" list that you haven't gotten around to actually reading. 

4. Get Caught Up on Grooming

Every woman knows that makeup can be applied in a car, but there are many grooming rituals that men and women can perform in the back of a taxicab. Grooming in the cab can help you save time in the morning, so you can sleep in a few extra minutes. The only rituals you need to avoid are ones that leave a mess behind or anything that involves a highly scented product, such as nail polish. 

Cordless, portable curling and hair-straightening irons heat up quickly and can then be stowed away in a heat-proof pouch after styling hair. Just be careful to avoid burning yourself with the hot irons, although travel versions often don't become as hot as full-sized ones. Nail filing can also be done, as well as application of unscented lotion. You can even give your face a fresh feeling after leaving work by wiping it with baby wipes or makeup-removal cloths. 

If you ride to and from work in a cab, then be thankful you don't have to drive. Not only do you get to leave the hectic driving up to the cab driver, but you can be very productive during that spare time sitting in the back seat.
