3 Ways To Prepare Your Vehicle For Airport Parking

Posted on

If you are going on a trip, and you are planning on driving yourself to the airport and leaving your vehicle in airport parking for the duration of your trip, there are a few things that you need to know in order to prepare your vehicle for long-term airport parking properly.

Many airports offer both short-term and long-term parking options. You can leave your vehicle parked safely within the confines of the airport for the duration of your trip. Before leaving your vehicle in a short or long-term parking situation, there are a few things you will want to do to prepare your vehicle.

Take Away Valuables

You are not going to want to leave valuables visible in your vehicle. In fact, you should not leave valuables in your vehicle at all. Before you head out on your trip, you will want to take some time at home and remove any valuables from your vehicle.

For example, you should take your mp3 player out of your vehicle and remove the portable GPS unit. You should take out any CDs and trinkets. You should also remove any phone chargers or hide them away. Remove any valuable papers from the glove box.

Although your vehicle should be safe, you will want to remove any temptation for someone to want to break into your vehicle while it is parked.

Top off the Fluids

When you get back from your trip, you will want to be able to get in your vehicle and safely drive away without having to worry about getting gas or adding more oil to your engine.

Before you head to long-term parking:

  1. Fill your vehicle up with gas so that you can just take off when you get back.
  2. Add a fuel stabilizer to your gas tank to keep the gas from oxidizing.
  3. Fill up your windshield wiper fluid and top off your coolant and oil.

These steps will ensure that your vehicle is ready to go and safe to drive when you get back.

Add Air to Your Tires

Next, you are going to want to add air to your tires. Add air up to the fullest pressure that you can safely add based on your vehicle's recommendation. This will help ensure that you don't get a flat tire while you are gone and that you have enough air in your tires for a safe journey home. External temperatures can impact how well inflated your tires are, so adding air before you go is a good idea.

Before you go on a trip that will keep you away from your vehicle for multiple days as it stays parked in a short or monthly parking spot at the airport, clean up your vehicle and put all valuables out of sight. Top off the fluids and add air to your tires so when you get back you can safely drive home. Contact a monthly parking service near you to learn more.
